Hiland’s Music Ministries presents members and friends with opportunities that draw them into a closer relationship with God and one another through music in worship. Many styles of music are used to offer praise, fellowship and reflection in glorifying our Lord.

If you have questions about any of the following music ministry groups or would like to offer your musical talent in anyway, please contact Jim Grapes at 412-302-0080.

VOCAL

Chancel Choir – An adult vocal choir that rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. from September through May. This choir prepares weekly anthems that provide a blended style for the worship service. Gospel, traditional, jazzy, reflective, and majestic styles are a few of the music styles the choir prepares for the Sunday morning worship service.

Summertime ChoirDuring the months of June, July and August, this choir meets at 9 a.m. in the Choir Room to quickly learn an easy-to-sing choir anthem for that day. Different praise choruses and one or two-part anthems that you can learn in 15 minutes are prepared for that Sunday’s worship service. There are no robes and you can sit with your family in the sanctuary during the worship service and just come forward with your fellow Summertime Choir members to sing that morning’s music selection. Young and old are encouraged to participate!

Vocal Ensemble – Individuals who enjoy singing, cannot commit to an evening rehearsal, and are available during the day, meet monthly on a Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. and rehearse a vocal anthem for the following Sunday. This group meets September through May in the choir room.

FOR THE KIDS

Cherub Choir – A music ministry for children 3 years old through sixth grade. Contact Jim Grapes at 412-302-0080 for more details.

SEASONAL

Advent/Christmas Choir – An adult choir that gathers during the five weeks prior to Christmas and joins with the Chancel Choir to prepare a Christmas Cantata as well as Advent music. This is intended to offer an opportunity for those individuals unable to commit to a full choir season, and yet, want to join with others to offer a special celebration of the Lord’s birth.

Lenten/Easter Choir – Similar to the Advent/Christmas Choir, we meet with the Chancel Choir for five weeks that include Lent and Easter.

Hiland Orchestra – Comprised of Junior High, Senior High, college and adult instrumentalists, the orchestra meets the week prior to Christmas to bring together the orchestration for the Advent/Christmas Choir Christmas Cantata. Members prepare their individual parts prior to the orchestra gathering. There is usually one orchestra rehearsal and one rehearsal with the choir. The cantata is usually presented the Sunday prior to Christmas.

INSTRUMENTAL

Hiland Ringers – An adult handbell and chime choir that meets September through May in the choir room at 6:30 p.m. Music is varied and degree of difficulty ranges from 2 -4 for handbell compositions.

Youth Hand Bell Ringers – A hand bell and chime choir that meets periodically through the year. Rehearsal times are varied. Junior High and Senior High youth are invited to participate.

Praise Band – is an important part of our blended worship service. They are always looking for new members to alternate on keyboard, guitar, bass, percussion and other appropriate instruments. Vocalists interested in contemporary song are also encouraged to participate.

Summertime Music Ministries – Special music is presented by instrumentalists and vocalists to honor our Lord during the months of June, July and August.
